How to Redecorate Using Existing Furniture

Your bedroom is where you spend time resting, regenerating and relaxing. But while you are perhaps still working at home part time or full time and, thus, spending more and time indoors, your rooms can feel less and less like a special sanctuary. Redecorating your bedroom to look more like a bedroom in a relaxing resort is a way to bring your sanctuary back..

One way to do this is to use your existing furniture and adding toss pillows and a blanket at the end of the bed to create that resort style look, which was done in the room in this case study. The second tip is to use accessories. Using updated accessories such as toss pillows, blankets, lamps, sculpture and wall art are the most inexpensive way to update a room. The third tip is to use colour which can help you pull the room together like a pro. These tips can be used in any room in your home. Now I will show you how this room in the above photo was transformed.

Tip #1 Use Existing Furniture From Other Rooms Too!

  •  The style of the existing furniture  (bed and dresser) both of which have straight lines are popular (contemporary) right now. So why not keep that style of furniture.
  • The streamlined bed side tables were moved into the room from another bedroom.
  • Taking furniture from another room is an economical redecorating solution.

  • The wall art and accessories on the dresser were outdated.
  • There was a lot of clutter too which was all removed

  •  The next tip involves using accessories. First, group smaller accessories in odd numbers, such as in three or fives.
  • Choose items of various heights and widths so they create a vignette or a pleasing grouping of items.
  • For example use three white vases of varying heights and shapes on a dresser to revitalize and update the room.

  • Next, pick updated lamps to put on the bedside tables so that you can read before bed.
  • Add a bouquet of flowers to add life to the room and add a white round candle like in this room or another shaped candle holder.
  • Candles are great for stressful times because when they’re lit they can be very soothing.

  • Accessories such as family photos or a picture framed with a favourite saying adds a personal touch.
  • Sculptures such as the bird on the other bed side table bring the outdoors in and adds interest.

3# Use a Triangular Colour Rhythm

  •  Blue is a colour that creates a serene and calming mood so it is a perfect colour for a bedroom.
  • Three or more items in the same colour in a room helps to create what is known as   a colour rhythm.
  •   If the colours are peppered throughout the room or are in a shape of a triangle then they more appealing to us.
  • In this room a triangular shaped colour rhythm is formed as the eye moves from the medium toned blue in the wall art to the medium toned blue on the pillows and and then to the blue blanket.
  • You can create colour rhythm in your room by picking a wall art and picking out one colour in it. Find two other accessossories that have that same colour tone or tint and space them out in a room to form a triangle.
