Two windows of varying heights in a room can be a challenge. For instance, in this breakfast room, the smaller window is significantly shorter than the taller French door and its adjoining windows. The contrast between their heights looks awkward, especially since there are no window treatments to soften the appearance. This situation makes the difference in window heights even more noticeable. You can see the different window heights in the photo on the left.
When the window treatments were installed, the sheers made the windows appear uniform because the height of the poles—and consequently the sheers—was consistent. The photo below illustrates that the poles are the same height. This alignment creates visual harmony, making the differences in window heights less noticeable due to the placement of the hardware.
The room was very cluttered, so we decided to declutter it. Furthermore, I added a farmhouse table to create a modern farmhouse feel. The turned legs of the table mirrored the turned columns on the kitchen island, effectively uniting the kitchen prep area with the breakfast room. The photo below illustrates this connection. Additionally, the dark chocolate window treatment rods match the stain of the island, further harmonizing the two spaces. Achieving harmony in a room lies in the details.
